7 Steps to Quit Smoking

It´s extremely dangerous for your health!

Smoking is not only a nasty smelly habit of yours. It is extremely dangerous for your health as well. Here is a 7-step-guide to help you give up the nasty-smoking-thing and start to enjoy a fresh-air life again.

Step 1: Just do it! It is a common believe that you can quit smoking gradually. Well, the truth is this never helps. Thinking that just reducing the number of cigarettes you have will only extend your misery. Once you have decided that you will stop, just stop.

Step 2: Get rid of your cigarettes. This is your first day as a non-smoker. Everything seems to go OK but you have a burning feeling deep into your pocket. Well, this is your unfinished pack of cigarettes. Throw them away (as well as any other supplies you may have hidden in your apartment or office). Keeping cigarettes means only one thing – you will give up the temptation and ruin your healthy plan.

Step 3: Avoid smoking areas and places. There is nothing worst for a person who tries to quit smoking than a smoky bar or a person smoking next to him. In your first months as a non-smoker you will have to avoid such areas as much as possible. The smoke is not only bad for your health but the smell and the sight of other people smoking will only make you agonize for a cigar.

Step 4: Get some medicines to help you. Today there are plenty of medical products available at the pharmaceutical market to help you cope with the post smoking stress. You will be dying for a cigar not only because of your habit but because of natural nicotine hunger. Your body is used to receiving certain amount of this substance every now and than and now you are not providing it. The effect is similar to the abstinence that is common for the people using drugs. Ask your GP for a medicine to help you cope with this.

Step 5:  Keep your hands bus. Smoking is a habit. It is mostly connected with the hands. Before you used to keep them busy with a cigarette while enjoying a coffee talk with friends or having a drink after work. Now you are a non-smoker and you just do not know to do with your hands! Keep them busy with something – this will take away your attention of the cigarette you are not going to light.

Step 6: Overcome getting fat problems. People who quit smoking are usually gaining weight too quickly. And for this sole reason many people are refusing or postponing the decision to quit smoking. It is true somehow that the ex-smokers gain weight. What people do not know is that it has nothing to do with the smoking. You are likely to gain weight because you are eating more. Moreover, you eat more because you do not know what to do when not having a cigarette to keep you busy. Try to substitute the usual stuff you eat with fresh vegetables or fruits, low-calorie candies or bubble gums.

Step 7: believe it is for real (this time). You have already quit smoking at least once. Nothing came out of it, right? Well this time it should be for real. Do more sports, try going out for a walks more often, keep in touch with other people who are in your position.  Your will and determination is really the basic and only tool to help you quit smoking this time.

I’m sure you among the above steps or combinations of steps will find your personal best way to quit smoking!
